1st and 2nd Grade Student Work

Project: Creating Abstract Collages using shapes, color, and patterns with 1st and 2nd graders
Students were assigned to create their abstract collages using geometrical and organic shapes. Students used black paper, brightly colored paper, colored pastels, crayons, scissors, and white glue to create their art. They were free to choose colors, patterns, lines, space, and shapes to experiment with to paint their abstract collage paintings.

This project was completed during Black History Month. The inspiration for this project was the colorful and abstract collage paintings of contemporary artist, Reggie Laurent. Fun way for students to combine both creativity and math. Emphasis was placed on the students to use their unique creative style.
