1st and 2nd Grade Student Work
Project: MLK Day Peace Signs with 1st and 2nd graders
Students received a list of words associated with Dr. Martin Luther King. They could also use other words of their liking for the project. The students were given white paper plates with hole punches and masking tape put in place to form the peace signs. They used watercolor to paint the plates, colorful paper to write their words, and cut the shapes with the words to any shape they desired. The word(s) were then attached to the plate using twine in the order that they preferred.
An example of the project was reviewed with the students before the start of the project, and emphasis was placed on the students to use their unique creative style.
